Introduction to the Lab (field of research)
We are focusing on the research on core technologies for 3D image services. In more detail,
video compression (MPEG1/2/4, H.263/26L/264 etc), visual communication, stereo/multi-view based 3D image
compression/decompression/view synthesis, 3D audio signal processing, etc. The technologies being developed
for 3D image services may be realized by attaching depth information to an ordinary 2D image using the
multi-view stereoscopic vision techniques, which makes the viewers feel realism as if they are on the spot.
Today, it is not going too far to say that in all the exhibition events related to information technologies,
3D display equipments are established to give chances to enjoy realistic 3D images, which provide such
outstanding visual effects distinguished from ordinary 2D images that optical illusion is caused. Regarding
such a trend, we are making an effort at researching and developing the technologies for 3D image services.

Introduction to the Lab (field of research)
The main research topics of the media web service laboratory are the context aware service
based on semantic sensor web technology. To provide context aware service, detecting and monitoring of
certain phenomena are required. Typically, sensors are used for this purpose. But, the sensor data has
heterogeneity about system, syntax, structure, and semantics. To solve these problems, new paradigms are
emerged such as IoT(Internet of Things), WoT(Web of Things), WoO(Web of Objext) and SSW(Semantic Sensor
Web). They provide new experience by convergence of existing service, content and data generated by sensor
through semantic approach and lightweight alternative protocols with REST. Regarding such a trends, we are
researching that web based wireless sensor network, device abstraction for the acquisition of raw data and
ontology design, semantic annotation, semantic reasoning for context awareness and service composition, user
pattern mining, user interface, and RESTful web service technology to provide user adoptive service.

CGA Lab.(Computer Graphics Applications Laboratory) is established in 2006 for the fundamental
researches and the development of CG applications useful in a serious game, virtual reality and animation.
In detail, we have focused on the convergence techniques for visualization and simulation of the physical
phenomenon and for making realistic contents using VR techniques like as stereo image rendering and
image-based rendering. Advisor is a chief of Institute of Cultural Technology supported by MCST(Ministry of
Culture, Sports and Tourism) developing a CAD system for traditional wooden building and establishing
virtual heritage. The degradation phenomenon for cultural assets and their representation method for
improving the reality in VR is a recently on-going study. Our research team is also interested in the
Holography in the future realistic full 3D display.
