100 years later
After hosting the Olympics in 1900 and 1924, Paris will hold for the third time this year. Paris will become the second city to host the Olympics three times in a single area after London, and the meaning of the third Olympics after 100 years is significant. Celebrating the return of the Olympic Games in France, the medal of each game is embellished with an original piece of the Eiffel Tower. Recently, the demolition of the Eiffel Tower has been under discussion, so the Olympic medal of Paris 2024 is more meaningful. The mascot of Paris 2024 is ‘Phryge.’ The design of ‘Phryge’ is inspired by the ‘Phrygian cap’ worn by the civilian army during the French Revolution. It shows France as a symbol of freedom.
Attractive Stadium
The attractive stadium is one of the reasons that makes Paris 2024 more exciting. Matches will be held across France, including Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice, Lyon, Nantes and Saint-Etienne. Sailing will show on the beautiful coastline of the southern French port city of Marseille, and the surfing will open on the French island of Tahiti in the South Pacific, located about 15,700 kilometers (9800 miles) away from Paris. Most events and matches will be held at various attractions in Paris. On the Seine River, an opening ceremony will show, entering each country’s national team on a yacht. Any unticketed general audience can see this show, and this will be the first outdoor opening ceremony for the Summer Olympics. Also, on the Seine River, swimming will take place. In addition, beach volleyball in front of the Eiffel Tower and modern pentathlon at the Palace of Versailles will be held.
